About the Collins Lane Garden :

The Manhattan Community Garden has started a new and exciting phase in its operations beginning in 2012. Working in conjunction with Riley County, the Garden has added a new site at 1435 Collins Lane on Hunter’s Island. Not only does this allow more garden plots, but it will also expand gardening opportunities to all Riley County residents. The current site on Riley Lane is restricted to residents of the city of Manhattan. This site will continue in addition to the new Collins Lane Garden location.

Plot rental for Collins Lane Plots is $37.50 + a $20 deposit. Low income gardeners pay $18.75 per plot plus a $20 deposit. Fees cover the costs of operating the program. Water, mulch, tools, and advice are available as part of the fee. This first year at Collins Lane, 76 plots are available; 68 full sized plots (25 by 25 feet) and 8 half sized plots ( 25 by 12.5 feet ) are available. An additional 72 plots are being planned for 2013 gardening. The Manhattan Community Garden is grateful to the Riley County Commission for providing the land and to Howie’s Trash and Recycling Services for providing labor and financial resources to help develop the new site.
